Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center Participates in International Giving Tuesday Now

March 25, 2021

Charleston, S.C. May 4, 2020 –Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center, the region’s leading resource to prevent abuse, protect children, and heal families, will participate in the new International Giving Tuesday Now on May 5th. Giving Tuesday Now is a global day of giving and unity in emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.

Dee Norton has continued to innovate its services during the COVID-19 pandemic as essential workers alongside first responders. The non-profit has pivoted its resources, adding the use of Telehealth and additional technology to provide the help children need today while keeping everyone safe from the virus.
“We have been able to prevent abuse, protect children and heal families now, even during this health crisis, because of the region’s support,” said Dr. Carole Swiecicki, Executive Director of Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center. “Children need our help today – now more than ever – and we have been working closely with first responders to ensure we are in a position to respond when there are concerns for abuse.”
Dee Norton is participating in Giving Tuesday Now to continue serving the children and families across the Lowcountry daily and will allocate the donations accordingly.
“We are relying on grants and generous donations from the community to help us modify our Center’s service delivery to include Telehealth software and hardware not previously budgeted,” said Swiecicki. “Our participation in this new international day of giving will help us continue to provide our much-needed services.”
Dee Norton’s direct service providers continue to go into the office for essential emergency services. These include forensic interviews, child and family advocacy, and medical examinations (provided by MUSC’s Child Abuse Pediatrics Division) for children with imminent concerns for child abuse.
