DNLCC’s Chart a Course for Children Celebrates 25 years of Helping Children Heal from the Trauma of Abuse

January 27, 2016

CHARLESTON, SC— On February 4, 2016, The Dee Norton Lowcountry Children’s Center (DNLCC) will kick off its 25th anniversary celebration with its annual dinner auction, Chart a Course for Children. This unique fundraising event, known for its intimate size and generous heart, is moving to an exciting new venue this year, The Cedar Room at the Cigar Factory. Now entering into its 16th year, the Chart a Course for Children dinner auction has raised over $2.1 million since its inception in 2001 to support the delivery of critical services for abused children and their families seen at DNLCC each year. In 2015 alone, DNLCC served a record 1,700 children and families.

“Building on the generosity of Weesie and Tradd Newton, who hosted Chart a Course for Children at Fleet Landing for 15 years, we are excited to have The Cedar Room as our venue host,” states Jenny Thompson, DNLCC Board Member and Chair of the Chart a Course for Children Planning Committee. Thompson adds, “As DNLCC celebrates our 25th anniversary in 2016, we also acknowledge that it is only through the support of our community that have we been able to help the 25,000 children and families who found healing at DNLCC in the course of those 25 years! With the community’s continued support, we will be ready for the next 25 years, providing expert comprehensive care from the moment of concern through the healing process.”
The event begins at 6 p.m. with cocktails, appetizers, and a silent auction, followed by a three-course dinner and live auction offering a wide variety of items including original art by renowned local artists, a wine blending class at the Grand Bohemian, exclusive dining opportunities, and an exotic week-long stay at the Firefly Sunset Resort in Abaco, Bahamas. Tickets for the event cost $225 per person, and reserved tables are available. Seating is limited.
